Chiefs To Do Battle With Euro Club For Attacker

Kaizer Chiefs could be preparing to do battle with Swiss side, FC Basel, for the signature of Kabelo Mahlasela when he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

The Amakhosi have been long-time admirers of the 26-year-old, although their reluctance to spend meant that the player – now into the last nine months of his contract, stayed with Bloemfontein Celtic in the last transfer window.

Now, as reported in this week’s issue of Soccer Laduma, it is thought that Chiefs are considering making a move for him, even though they may face European competition in the form of Basel.

It is believed that Mahlasela could be looking to make a move and take the next step in his career when his contract ends in June, and with that in mind, Celtic could look to offload him in January rather than lose him for free.

Soccer Laduma sought to make contact with Chiefs’ Corporate Communications Manager, Vina Maphosa, via email for comment on their potential interest in Mahlasela, however, had received no response by the time of going to print.

Mahlasela played 24 games last season, scoring twice in all competitions.
