Wits To Make Even More Money On Mahlambi

Bidvest Wits already made tens of millions of rand on the back of selling Phakamani Mahlambi to Al Ahly, but they should make even more on him in the future.

The 20-year-old made a move believed to be worth over R20 million to Egypt earlier this month in one of the biggest transfers in South African history and hit the ground running when he scored a brace on his debut in a friendly against El Gouna.

However, as reported in last week’s issue of Soccer Laduma, that fee could potentially rise to around R30 million with the add-ons involved in the deal.

The crew has had it confirmed that there is a sell-on clause that will see the Egyptians pay an extra amount to Wits should the Bafana Bafana international be sold in the future.

While the exact percentage figure is not known at this stage, the crew has been informed that there is a minimum guaranteed amount that Wits will pocket if Mahlambi is sold, regardless of how much the next transfer fee is valued at.

Mahlambi hasn’t been able to make his competitive debut for Al Ahly due to their CAF Champions League commitments – he signed after the registration period – however, it is drawing closer for him as the tournament reaches the semi-finals.
