Police Forced To Escort Komphela After Chiefs’ Baroka Loss

Police at Moses Mabhida Stadium this past weekend had to escort Kaizer Chiefs’ Steve Komphela from the field of play following the loss to Baroka FC.

The Glamour Boys have now lost seven of their last 15 games – winning just three since mid-April and the pressure is starting to rack up on Komphela as the club’s fanbase continue with their chants of ‘Steve Must Go’.

Chiefs are in sixth place in the Absa Premiership as we go into the international break, however, have played more games than six of the 10 teams that are currently below them.

They took the lead against Baroka thanks to a tremendous George Maluleka strike, but once again were unable to hold onto their lead and their former player, Lewis Macha, grabbed an equaliser 15 minutes later. 

When Gift Motupa scored the goal that won the game for Bakgaga it was not against the run of play, with last year’s relegation battlers taking the game to the Soweto giants for most of the encounter and being good value for their victory.

Chiefs fans, who are used to seeing their team win, voiced their displeasure after the game not just to Komphela but also to team manager, Bobby Motaung, as they made sure that they were aware of their unhappiness.

Komphela, who was taken from the field in the safety of a police escort, now has a couple of weeks with his players during the international break as they look for a way to turn around their fortunes.
