Johannesburg – The nephew of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was denied bail when he appeared in the Orlando Magistrate’s Court after allegedly stealing from the ANC stalwart, police said on Friday.
Zolile Madikizela, 30, was arrested on Wednesday, Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said.
He was arrested after Colin Mtileni, an employee of the Madikizela-Mandela household, opened a case against him.
The struggle stalwart had opened a case of theft after discovering her R83 000 birthday cash gift had gone missing.
News24 understands that Madikizela-Mandela discovered the cash was missing when she took her bag out of her wardrobe at her home to look for bread money.
Mulamu said the nephew was expected to appear in court on October 13.
