Leonardo Castro says Khama Billiat makes Kaizer Chiefs attackers' jobs easier

Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro has shed light on their offensive improvement this season, and says Khama Billiat’s arrival has made his job easier.

Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas has formed a strong attacking trident with the likes of Castro, Billiat and Dumisani Zuma, as he sets his side out in a 4-3-3 formation.

The trio have tallied up seven goals and five assists amongst them thus far, and continue to create threats on opposition defences when combined up front.

Deeper lying playmaker Siphelele Ntshangase also deserves credit for his well-placed passes that dissect defensive lines and put the strikers through on goal.

Castro, who has not shied away from speaking his mind in recent times, has admitted Amakhosi had some scoring troubles under Steve Komphela, but credits the growing understanding in their attacking structure and particularly lauds the arrival of his former Mamelodi Sundowns teammate.

“We know the strengths of each one – Ntshangase is a good passer so as the strikers we need to move all the time to create space for him to pass the ball,” said Castro.

“Even Zuma is a quick player who is very good at dribbling, so he also provides the ball for us [strikers].

“As for Billiat, we know each other so we just look with our eyes and take note of which movements we make and where the ball is going, so it’s easier for me to play with Billiat.

“Last season we struggled with scoring goals. With Billiat now, the soccer up front is easier so that means Khama makes our jobs easier.”

Following the current international break, Chiefs will visit MTN8 finalists Cape Town City in an Absa Premiership clash set for the Cape Town Stadium next Saturday, September 15.
