CAF Confederation Cup
Result: Club Africain 1-3 SuperSport United (*SuperSport won 4-2 on aggregate)
Date: 22 October 2017
Venue: Stade Olympique de Radès
A brace from Bradley Grobler helped SuperSport United beat Club Africain 3-1 in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup semi-final match at the Stade Olympique de Radès on Sunday evening.
The win sees SuperSport run out 4-2 aggregate winners over the two legs, which means they will now face DR Congo’s TP Mazembe in the final.
Despite playing away from home, SuperSport started really well and controlled the possession and flow of play.
The South African side made their early pressure tell with the opening goal in the 16th minute when Grobler superbly headed home a Thuso Phala cross, 1-0 (2-1 on aggregate).
Club Africain started seeing more of the ball after going behind and almost drew level in the 35th minute when Ghazi Ayadi met a cross with a strong header, but Ronwen Williams made a great acrobatic save to deny him.
The Tunisian side continued to push for an equaliser, but the SuperSport defence kept them at bay to take a 1-0 lead into the half time break.
Eight minutes into the second half, the South African team managed to double their lead on the night when Jeremey Brockie latched onto a pin-point through ball from Teboho Mokoena and fired past the keeper, 2-0 (3-1 on aggregate).
Club Africain quickly pulled a goal back in the 56th minute courtesy of a penalty strike from Saber Khalifa, who won the spot-kick after being fouled inside the box by Morgan Gould, 2-1 (3-2 on aggregate).
In the 65th minute, SuperSport reaffirmed their dominance in the tie with their third goal on the night and Grobler’s second after the striker latched onto another pass from Phala and calmly slotted it home, 3-1 (4-2 on aggregate).
SuperSport’s third goal seemed to take the wind out of Club Africain’s sails as the game fizzled out and the South African side walked away victorious.
