Eurowings and SAA begin to work together
Eurowings, a German low-cost airline headquartered in Düsseldorf and a fully owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group will be working very closely with recently troubled South African Airways (SAA).
According to a report, the Star Alliance partner will access the Eurowings route network for feeder flights to its long-haul connections from all over Europe.
It is believed that SAA passengers may begin their trips to Africa with Eurowings. It has been reported that the cooperation has already been launched as an extended interlining agreement.
In addition to this new deal with SAA, Eurowings will soon be launching a new route of their own to South Africa. The first flight on the route between Cologne/Bonn and Cape Town is scheduled to take off on 5 November 2017. Bookings for the new intercontinental route are already off to a good start.
Eurowings starts the offering with high capacity utilisation of its Airbus A330 jets. This indicates that South Africa is one of the destinations that people of Germany love to frequent. According to a report, German passengers are interested in feeder flights to London-Heathrow and Munich from where they can change to the South African Airways long-haul flights to Johannesburg.
South African Airways offers a large number of connecting flights out of Johannesburg, both within South Africa and also internationally. Both airlines are expecting a higher volume of passengers, more comfort and greater flexibility for passengers within the collaborative working relationship.
Reports further stated that South African Airways’ passengers will also enjoy maximum comfort on board the Eurowings feeder flights. If they have booked business class for their long-haul flight, they will also travel at Eurowings’ “Best” rate, if this rate is offered on the route selected. Economy class passengers on the long-haul route will fly at Eurowings “Smart” rate which includes a free snack and a seat with more legroom.
