Pitso Mosimane concerned about attacking options against Wydad Casablanca

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is worried about the lack of firepower upfront ahead of the CAF Champions League quarterfinal first leg against Moroccan outfit Wydad Casablanca on Sunday.

Sundowns beat Free State Stars 2-1 without eight of their players who were out injured for the clash. To make matters worse, Liberian international Anthony Laffor was taken off with an injury in the first half and is now a doubt for the important clash against Wydad.

Despite having a long injury list, Mosimane says he will still be able to put out a team that can compete and get the desired result at Lucas Moripe Stadium this weekend.

The key man will be Percy Tau, who scored a brilliant brace against Ea Lla Koto. The defending champions need the Bafana Bafana forward to perform the same way he did on Monday, to inspire them to victory.

Other players that can chip in with goals are Sibusiso Vilakazi, Themba Zwane and George Lebese.




“It’s a difficult game because we are lacking strikers. [Yannick] Zakri is injured. Leo [Castro] just came in and he has not been around. The 50 minutes he gave us [against Stars] I was happy with. It could be better,” Mosimane told the media after the victory at Goble Park.

“Khama [Billiat] is injured, Laffor is injured. It’s a problem, but we should not complain. We will have 11 players on the pitch and we will have substitutes. You know when they [the players] come from international games, that’s the problems. That’s why we had to sign other players.”

Goalkeeper Denis Onyango will return to the starting line-up on Sunday. The man who was in goal against Stars, Razak Brimah, is not registered for the CAF Champions League. And with Kennedy Mweene also out nursing a hamstring injury, Thela Ngobeni will be the back-up for Onyango.
