Khotso Malope thrilled with "dream debut" for Kaizer Chiefs against Maritzburg United

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Khotso Malope says he will "take it one game at a time" after making his debut in the 2-0 win over Maritzburg United.

The 23-year-old played 71 minutes before making way for fan-favourite Hendrick Ekstein at Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Amakhosi development product, who spent last term on loan at Thanda Royal Zulu and the season before at Moroka Swallows, was naturally pleased to finally represent the Soweto giants.

"It was a dream start," Malope told his club's website as he admitted to pre-match nerves.

"I was looking forward to start in an official match for Chiefs."

He added: “We played against Maritzburg according to the coach’s instructions.”

Malope could see more game-time as regular starter George Maluleka faces three weeks on the sidelines with a thigh strain.

"From here on, I will take it one game at a time,” he said when asked about his prospects of getting another start in Saturday's clash with in-form Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium (20h00).

"For the moment, I am happy that we beat Maritzburg. Thanks and glory to God. Thank you also to the Amakhosi family for their support. This is a dream come true!"

Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has been dishing out debuts of late, having also fielded teenager Wiseman Meyiwa and new signing Bongolethu Jayiya in recent weeks.
